Vehicle Collides with Gas Meter after Fleeing Police

Oceanside CA— Shortly after 4:00 this morning, August 23, 2016, an Oceanside Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle for violating a minor vehicle code in the area of County Club Lane and Maxson Street in Oceanside. The vehicle initially stopped, but fled as the Officer exited his vehicle.

The officer lost sight of the vehicle. Several minutes later a resident reported that a vehicle had collided with a residential gas meter in the 2300 block of Maxson Street. Oceanside Police Department and Oceanside Fire Department responded and evacuated two residences.

Officer were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle, but did confirm that it was the vehicle that had earlier fled from police.

San Diego Gas & Electric responded to the scene and shut off the gas. The residents returned to their home.

The investigation is ongoing and follow up will be conducted by Oceanside Police Department.
