Special Guest Speaker Medal of Honor Recipient Dakota Meyer
Camp Pendleton CA— According to the most recent Census data, San Diego is home to over 230,000 veterans. Local public and private sector leaders in the area are experienced at supporting the veteran and military community, and the result has been a drop in post-9/11 veteran unemployment. But even in times of low unemployment, veterans, transitioning service members and spouses are always in need of additional support in their efforts to find a new or better job.
That’s why on September 28th and 29th, San Diego-area veterans, transitioning service members and spouses will have the opportunity to attend a Hiring Our Heroes Transition Summit with key federal and state agencies, influential military leaders, innovators in the business and employment community and local community leaders. The summit will kick off on September 28th with key remarks from Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer, panel discussions, workshops and facilitated discussions focusing on improving employment for service members, veterans, and their spouses. These lessons will culminate in a hiring fair and career forum on September 29th. This event is hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and sponsored by Alcoa Foundation, CarMax, Prudential, Toyota, and Verizon.
The summit will kick off on Wednesday afternoon, September 28th, at the Pacific Views Event Center, with a panel discussion of employers and base leaders, industry briefs for job seekers, and a networking reception. On September 29th, attendees will have the opportunity to attend employment workshops, followed by the hiring fair from 1-4pm.
