Marta Lledo is no stranger to the stage. She gave her first public performance at The Williams Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires when she was just six years old. During her three years as a student at the Williams Conservatory she received first place medals — the top honor for the best student in all three years. Marta Lledo also won the Wagner Association Award for the “Most Talented Young Person in Argentina.”
Marta’s first major break came about from untraditional circumstances. While she was still in her teens and living away from her parents in a modest apartment, she would practice on a table where she taped a piece of paper on which she drew piano keys. With her financial savings diminished and having no work experience, she found herself sleeping in a subway station. One day while rationing out an apple, she noticed men with instruments entering a nearby building and learned that the symphony was holding a rehearsal in the building. She entered the building and insisted on auditioning for the conductor, even after he threatened to call security to have her removed. Just as the conductor reappeared in the room with security trailing behind, Marta began to play Chopin’s 1st Concerto. The conductor immediately motioned for the security to hold their position and when she finished the 1st movement, the entire orchestra began to clap. By the next day, Marta had earned her spot as the new pianist for the symphony.
After the release of her album, Twelve Tangos, she performed her tangos in Leipzig, Germany to an audience of over 5,000 people. The album consists of compositions that were specifically arranged for Lledo. Other notable performances in her career include the Chopin 1st Concerto for piano and orchestra (alongside the famous conductor Miguel Angel Gilardi), as well as performances at the Circulo Military, The Rome Theater, The National Radio Concert Hall, The Italian Club, and the Bolsa de Comercio.
