Oceanside CA— Friday night football in Oceanside just got even better for fans. The Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) and KOCT have partnered to air the varsity football game between hometown rivals Oceanside High School and El Camino High School. The game will be aired live from El Camino High School on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
At their regular meeting on Oct. 11, the OUSD Board of Education voted to bring back the broadcasting of Oceanside sports to local television. The vote also included the airing of the El Camino High School vs. Oceanside High School varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball games, dates to be determined.
“Oceanside has had a long-standing tradition of excellence in sports as well as education,” said OUSD Board President Mike Blessing. “Our high school teams have fans throughout the city and the region. This will give Oceanside fans, near and far, another way to cheer on our teams.”
From 1990 to 2008, KOCT broadcasted OUSD sports on their airwaves. The partnership was discontinued due to funding priorities. The cost of the broadcasting is being funded by public donations.
“We are very excited to partner with OUSD to bring back the wonderful tradition of high school sports on television,” said Tom Reeser, executive director of KOCT. “The airing of these games will help instill even more pride in our city and our Oceanside schools.”
Announcers Art Root and Joshua Galea’i will return to call the on-field action.
For fans unable to make Friday’s game at El Camino High School, the match up will air live on KOCT as well as on www.KOCT.ORG starting at 7 p.m. The game will be replayed on Channel 18 on Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m.
KOCT will also cover the live events and replay the games on KOCT’s Channel 19, Cox Cable in the City of Oceanside, and county-wide on AT&T’s U-Verse Service, Channel 99.
