CBRE Announces Plans to Relocate Central San Diego Office to Westfield’s UTC Shopping Center

San Diego CA—  CBRE Group, Inc. announced today that it will move its central San Diego office to Westfield’s UTC shopping center. The CBRE office will occupy the entire 32,336-sq.-ft. third floor of a newly developed building that is part of Westfield UTC’s ongoing expansion and revitalization. Located at the intersection of La Jolla Village Drive and Genesee Avenue, the building is situated as a primary entrance of the center and will include a concierge staff and valet service for CBRE employees and clients.

The new office is part of CBRE’s global “Workplace360” initiative, the company’s leading-edge approach to workplace strategy designed to promote flexibility, mobility and productivity through technology-enabled, 100 percent free-address and paperless offices.

“Our new office will incorporate leading-edge technology,” said John Frager, executive managing director of the San Diego region. “All employees will be equipped with a laptop, and all work stations will include dual monitors, phone extension mobility and electronic sit/stand desk options. We will have dedicated space for Liquid Galaxy, which is state-of-the-art presentation technology that uses sophisticated mapping data to give panoramic, comprehensive property and market tours, complete with 3D building images and street views, to our clients from the comfort of our office.”

The company will relocate its central San Diego office—the largest of CBRE’s three San Diego region offices—to one that features a more efficient floorplate and design that can house its 160 employees on one floor.

In addition to concierge and valet services, CBRE employees will be invited to utilize other Westfield UTC amenities.  The retail destination offers access to its indoor/outdoor event space for larger business affairs, and several outdoor seating areas provide employees a sunny, tranquil environment, which complements the design of CBRE’s indoor workspace.

“We created employee-led committees to help design a workplace that reflects the concept, ‘think globally, act locally,’” said Cicily Dostalek, program manager for CBRE’s Workplace360 initiative. “We wanted to embrace the Southern California lifestyle in our design with an indoor/outdoor feel that brings in natural light and takes advantage of the tremendous San Diego weather—the inclusion of four sets of operable sliding doors was one of the key ways were able to do that.”

CBRE’s in-house Workplace Strategy team is leading the implementation of the new space along with CBRE’s in-house Project Management team led by Sara Burg, who is overseeing the construction process. CBRE expects to move into its new office in October 2017.

CBRE’s Bill Bacon and Mike Hoeck represented CBRE in the transaction and the landlord, Westfield Group, was represented internally.

Westfield has spent approximately $585 million on the current expansion of the UTC center, this total does not include the future residential portion. The expansion phase of construction is adding approximately 251,000 square feet of premier retail, dining and entertainment space and there are plans for a high-end residential tower on the southwest portion of the property. Adjacent to the CBRE office, Westfield will have an 18,000 square foot indoor/outdoor events space that will be used to host public and private events and will be available to rent by the public. The center will also be home to a bimodal transit center for buses and the planned mid-county trolley extension.
