Motorcyclist Dies in Accident on El Camino in Oceanside-Updated

Update: The victim in this accident has been identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiners Office as Jeremiah Eugene Ledesma, of Oceanside.

Oceanside CA— Yesterday afternoon, Thursday, February 02, 2017, at 5:40pm, the Oceanside Police Department received calls of a collision involving a motorcycle and a Toyota sedan on El Camino Real near Basel Street.  Further information indicated the motorcyclist, a 36-year-old male, was not breathing but had a pulse.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene and transported the injured motorcyclist to the area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The collision occurred when the driver of the sedan made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist struck the sedan on the passenger door ejecting him from the bike.

The Medical Examiner was notified and the name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The driver of the sedan was interviewed on scene and released. The passenger of the sedan was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Based on the preliminary investigation it does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.  The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation.
