Oceanside CA— The MiraCosta College Theatre Department presents the musical classic, “Oklahoma!,” music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The play opens March 10 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Tracy Williams will direct.
“Oklahoma!” is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration and garnered them a special Pulitzer Prize. It also made history by fully uniting well-drawn characters, linear plot structure and integrated songs and dance, which served as the model for Broadway shows for decades. With iconic songs like “Oklahoma!,” “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” and “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” you won’t want to miss this piece of American musical history.
“We haven’t produced a big ‘classic’ book musical since ‘Guys and Dolls,’ four years ago, and ‘Oklahoma!’ changed musical theatre history so we felt it would be good for the students on our campus to see this important piece of theatre,” said Director Williams. “And most of the characters are the ages of our student body. They are young and hopeful, looking for love and hoping to make a difference in the world.”
The cast features Bryce Ayers, Natasha Baenisch, Timothy Cabal, Max Dannenberg, Zachary Ryan Elliott, Josef Emmenegger, Anna Gagliaro, Lucas Goodman, Sawyer Henderson, Rachael Hodge, Lindsay Jolliff, Joanne Kissinger, John McCoy, Arthur Morel, Don Naegele, Lisa Naudi, Ana Reyes, Annabella Rojas, Rachel Roman, Kelly Saunders, Alex Smith, Samuel Hayden Sproul, Alex Tanner and Tanner Vidos.
Play dates are scheduled for March 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. and March 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 2 p.m. General admission is $18; seniors/staff, $15; students, $13.
