The IRONMAN Foundation Launches Volunteer Appreciation Initiative at 2017 North American Events

Tampa FL— The IRONMAN Foundation® announced on Thursday that as part of their commitment to community, it has launched a Volunteer Appreciation Program at all 2017 North American events, beginning with the IRONMAN® 70.3® Oceanside and IRONMAN® 70.3® Texas triathlons, to acknowledge volunteers for their contributions over race weekend.

As athletes check-in, they will receive a red IRONMAN Foundation wristband with the instructions to give them to their favorite volunteers as a token of thanks for their service through sport and community. The Volunteer Group with the most wristbands at the end of race weekend will receive special acknowledgement from the IRONMAN Foundation.

“It takes thousands of volunteers to bring IRONMAN athletes across the finish line every year,” said Sarah Hartmann, Community Relations Manager for The IRONMAN Foundation. “The red wristband is now our ‘Symbol of Service,’ providing athletes with the opportunity to show appreciation to a volunteer who helps them reach their IRONMAN triathlon goals.”

Volunteer Captains are encouraged to share their wristband photos with their Volunteer Director and through social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with #IMFVolunteer.
