Oceanside CA— April is National Poetry Month, and the Oceanside Public Library is offering a Community Poetry Celebration and Poet Talk. In keeping with a hope to foster an appreciation of poetry and demonstrate the power of words, Library staff have asked Oceanside locals and community leaders to share their favorite poems. The Community Poetry Celebration and Poet Talk will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms, at 330 N. Coast Highway in downtown Oceanside.
In tandem with the Community Poetry Celebration, the Library will also feature a Poet Talk by Patricia Traxler, who will be sharing some of her favorite poems, as well as a sampling of her own original poetry. Traxler was born and raised in San Diego, and now lives and teaches in Kansas. She is the author of several volumes of poetry, including Naming the Fires and Forbidden Words, and has recently completed her first novel, Blood. She will be reading from Naming the Fires, and copies of that book will be available for purchase immediately following.
This Community Poetry Celebration and Poet Talk is sponsored by the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library and Poets & Writers Magazine.
