Ribbon Cutting for Oceanside ‘the Arcade’ Tattoo

Oceanside CA— On Friday, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for Oceanside ‘the Arcade’ Tattoo,  604 Mission Ave. The shop is owned by lifetime Oceanside residents, Jason and Melissa Betz.

The shop, is not only a place to get a tattoo or piercing, it has the atmosphere of an art studio or a museum with more than 130 frames containing flash tattoo art from the city’s past that Jason has spent years collecting. “It’s folk art. Timeless, “said Jason, “They show the history of what the world was going through at the time.” There is flash art from the early 1900’s, WWII and the Vietnam era created by legendary tattoo artists such as; Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, Huck Spaulding, Oceanside’s original tattoo artist, Buzz Clayton, and Ralph E. Johnstone. Jason has a wealth knowledge to explain the history behind the art to anyone who visits the shop.

The Arcade name pays tribute to Oceanside’s original tattoo shop, which was located on the southwest corner of Coast Highway and Mission Ave, with much of the flash on display coming from the tattoo artists who worked there.
