Oceanside CA— There is currently a “boys crisis” critically harming our society. Boys and young men all over the nation are struggling with school, the law, substance abuse, violence and suicide. In response to this crisis, young people are speaking up. One such platform is Young Voices TV, a new talk show hosted by two young men holding a conversation about the needs of today’s boys and men.
Young Voices TV, presented through KOCT’s “North County Talks” program, will begin airing August 12th. Co-hosted by 18-year-old O’Naje Jones and 20-year-old Louis Castrejon, the guests for the first three 30-minute episodes include:
Billy Moore, President and CEO of the ABC Youth Foundation and 14-year-old Malik Jones, a 5-year member of ABC, which carries the mission to empower San Diego’s inner city youth to face life’s challenges without cowardice but with courage and dignity.
Joe Sigurdson and Craig McClain, the founders of the Boys to Men Mentoring Network, a nationwide program with 33 centers across the globe, designed “to create communities of men who teach, support, mentor and encourage boys to become compassionate and accountable men.”
Tasreen Khamisa, Executive Director for the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF) and Edwin Vazquez, Peace Educator of TKF, which is a San Diego nonprofit with a mission to create safer schools and communities through educating and inspiring children in the restorative principles of accountability, compassion, forgiveness, and peacemaking.
The concept of Young Voices TV originated through a commission of 34 nationally known scholars and advocates who are working to create a White House Council on Boys and Men to help bring solution to the crisis facing boys. (www.WhiteHouseBoysMen.org.) Recent projects have put the Young Voices TV in front of politicians, most prominently during the 2016 Presidential campaign, as the young reporters approached media and politicians asking pointed questions about what they could do for the cause. These opportunities included presence at a San Diego Bernie Sanders’ rally, presence at a Hilary Clinton fundraiser in Atherton, California, a highlight interview on radio station KNSJ Radio – 89.1, interviews with prominent TV stations and newspaper media, as well as celebrities such as George Lopez.
