Woman Receives Life-threatening Injury in Accidental Shooting

Oceanside CA— Last night, August 15, 2017, just before 11:00pm, Oceanside Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim at 1320 Bush Street.  Several units arrived on scene quickly and found the reporting party rendering aid to the victim, in apartment #A  a downstairs unit.

The victim is a female resident of Huntington Beach but was house sitting at her daughter’s apartment while she is away.  The investigation revealed that the reporting party lives in apartment #C, directly above unit #A. The male in the upstairs unit sat down to clean his 9mm Glock handgun and accidentally discharged a chambered round into the floor of his apartment.

The bullet traveled through the floor into apartment #A where the victim was sitting on the couch watching television.  The bullet struck her in the leg causing a life threatening injury.

Officers from the department arrived first and applied emergency first aid to her leg.  As OFD transported her to the ambulance, she was unconscious and barely breathing

The victim was taken to a local trama center where she was admitted to a critical care unit.

Detectives from the departments Crimes of Violence Unit responded and assumed the investigation.  The shooter is currently not in custody.
