Suspect Dead in Officer Involved Shooting

Oceanside CA— Early this morning, September 22, 2017 at 12:15am, Oceanside Police Officers responded to a radio call of a male subject armed with a knife in the 3400 block of Marron Road, in south Oceanside. When officers arrived on scene, they encountered a male subject armed with a knife.

The subject was uncooperative with officers and refused to surrender the weapon. Officers deployed Less-Lethal munitions but the suspect maintained possession of the weapon.

Police K-9’s were deployed that resulted in the suspect dropping the knife. The suspect then produced what appeared to be a handgun from his waistband and an officer involved shooting occurred.

Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by involved officers and paramedics, the suspect died at the scene.

This investigation is on-going. OPD Investigators are currently on scene. The identification of the suspect is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin.

As with all Officer Involved Shootings, this case is being investigated jointly by the Oceanside Police Department and the San Diego District Attorney’s Office.
