Tom Morrows’ Notes and Quotes plus Sunday Serial Return to OsideNews

Editors note: Tom Morrow is resurrecting his popular, long-time running, North County Times column ‘Notes and Quotes’  The column will post here once a week, “possibly more if I have something to say” said Tom. In addition, we are bringing back the popular ‘Sunday Serial’. Each week we will bring you a chapter of Tom’s novel ‘Haunted Bones’. This is the story of two city detectives trying to piece together a series of murders. The victims’ bodies have been preserved and stuffed into the walls of a seaside resort in Oceanside,California.

By Tom Morrow

This column marks a return to an effort I carried out for more than 20 years at the old Blade-Citizen and now defunct North County Times. (By the way, I had nothing to do with the NCT’s demise).

If you’re reading this, then you’ve discovered the fine work Steve Marcotte, editor of Osidenews.com is doing. It’s the only true source of Oceanside and surrounding area news. Your support of him and his sponsor advertising will ensure his efforts continue. Yes, there are other sources, print and otherwise, but most have forgotten Oceanside is the largest of North County’s cities and interesting and newsworthy stuff does happen here.

Occasionally, I’ll have a comment or two about the social and political scenes, but I primarily plan on keeping this columns mostly to a lighter, humorous vein. We have enough negative pontification floating around Washington and Sacramento without me pitching my two-cents worth…however, I can help agreeing a statement sent in by a frustrated taxpayer:

“We should stop calling them all ‘Entitlements’. Welfare, Food Stamps, etc. are not entitlements. They are taxpayer-funded handouts, and shouldn’t be called entitlements at all. Social Security and Veterans Benefits are Entitlements because the people receiving them are entitled to them. They were earned and paid for by the recipients.”

GREAT HEADS — “Lack of brains hinders research” — The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch

FINAL WORDS — On a Silver City, Nev. tombstone: “Here lays Butch, we planted him raw. He was quick on the trigger, but slow on the draw.”
