Suspects Arrested after Firing Shots at CHP Officers in Vista

Vista CA— Early Saturday morning, December 2, 2017 at approximately 1:17am, a CHP unit with two officers observed a white Kia Optima with no headlights on, blocking a southbound lane of East Vista Way at Old Taylor Street. The officers illuminated the vehicle at which time it suddenly fled the scene.

The CHP unit gave chase and after a few miles, the right front passenger shot multiple shots at the pursuing CHP unit. The CHP unit slowed to increase the distance between the two vehicles
and the right front passenger shot multiple rounds at the unit for a second time.

The CHP unit lost sight of the vehicle but after a search of the area discovered it abandoned at Golf Club Drive east of Old River Road. The area was searched with the assistance if San Diego Sheriff’s ground units and a helicopter. After approximately thirty minutes, the first of two suspects was located and taken into custody.

The second suspect was located and taken into custody approximately thirty-minutes after the first suspect. Both suspects surrendered and were taken into custody peacefully.

CHP personnel were not injured during this incident and no damage to CHP equipment was sustained.

The incident remains under investigation.
