Walmart, Sam’s Club Associates Unite to Raise Nearly a Half Million Dollars for Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego

Nearly $35 million raised nationally helps pay for critical medical care for local kids

San Diego County CA—Walmart and Sam’s Club associates are helping “put the money where the miracles are” again this year with a combined fundraising effort raising $440,335 for Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego following the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals campaign. The fundraising efforts are part of a broader national effort that raised more than $34 million in support of the 170 member hospitals across the country.

“There is a great sense of community when our associates and our customers can rally around a cause we all believe in like supporting CMN Hospitals,” said Angela Wilson, Walmart regional general manager. “We always say that every dollar counts, and we are so grateful for our customers and members who donate to help children live better. Their passion for helping kids served by Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego has never wavered, and it inspires us to go bigger and do more every year.”

Donations made to the Children’s Miracle Network campaign will be used to help sick and injured children get the care they need at their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

“We are so grateful for the incredible support of Walmart and Sam’s Club, their associates, customers and members,” said Carol Damon-Scherer, Vice President of Philanthropy for Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. “For more than 30 years, Walmart has helped to provide hope and healing for our families through their generous support.

Damon-Scherer explained that at Rady Children’s, these donations help fund lifesaving technology and research, provide a safety net for children with little or no medical insurance and create a healing environment designed to enrich the experience of patients and their families. “With Walmart’s contributions to the fund, Rady Children’s is able to help fulfill the highest and greatest needs of the hospital and be better equipped to provide the excellent patient care we are known for nationwide.”

Walmart and Sam’s Club have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for 30 years. Funds raised impact each of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat 10 million kids annually across North America. Hospitals utilize the funds based on what they need most — including lifesaving equipment and research, top therapy programs, charitable care and more.

Fundraising efforts have evolved over the last 30 years. While donations at the registers drive most of the fundraising at stores and clubs during the campaign, associates also get creative by hosting fundraising events, such as bake sales and contests.
