Encinitas CA— Yesterday evening, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at approximately 6:36pm, Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff Station responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision near the intersection of North El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard, in the City of Encinitas.
Preliminary investigation has revealed a 61-year-old male pedestrian was walking westbound, crossing North El Camino Real, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound in the number one lane of North El Camino Real. The pedestrian was not crossing the street in the marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian sustained serious injury, and was transported by AMR paramedic ambulance to the hospital, unfortunately he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased. The identity of the deceased and cause of death will be determined by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office.
Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation in collaboration with the North Coastal Sheriff Station traffic division. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
