Outdoor gear shop kicks off monthly sessions with bicycle touring on February 21
San Diego CA— Many adventurers call San Diego their basecamp – a place to rest for their extreme weekend travels. With a new speaker series launching February 21 at ROVE, an outdoor and travel store in Normal Heights, aspiring adventure seekers can connect directly with some of the area’s most inspiring outdoor lovers who will share stories, how-to tips and gear must-haves.
Named ROVE Abouts, the monthly series kicks off on Wednesday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m. with Bike Touring 101 led by local entrepreneur Jamie Hampton. The event is a casual gathering in an intimate space with time to connect, learn and dream.
“We’re cultivating a sense of community at our brick and mortar store to encourage our neighbors to explore San Diego, and beyond, in new ways,” said Blake Robertson, who owns ROVE with his wife Jenna. “As place to find inspiration beyond social media, ROVE Abouts will bring people together in a physical space to share stories and encourage new adventures every month.”
Hampton, who leads Mixte Communications by day, is well known as a bicycle commuter and someone whose staff is often seen on two wheels. For her Bicycle Touring 101 session, Jamie will share stories and photos from her many self-supported bicycle trips including Portland to San Diego along highway 101, through Turkey, in Spain and Morocco, and along the Rhine River from Switzerland to The Netherlands.
Hampton’s ROVE Abouts presentation will be followed very shortly with another ROVE Abouts on March 7 featuring a presentation on thru-hiking the PCT. From there, the series will settle into a monthly evening routine on the first Wednesday of every month.
No ticket or RSVP is required.
