Artist Rizzhel Javier at Oceanside Public Library- October 5

Oceanside CA— As part of the Oceanside First Friday Art Walk, the Oceanside Public Library will host San Diego-based artist/educator Rizzhel Javier at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway, on Friday, October 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Rizzhel will be showing work from her current community art focus, “People and Places Project” (www.peopleandplacesproject.com). Her work will be on display at Civic Center Library through October 31. Join her again on Sunday, October 7, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mission Branch Library, 3861-B Mission Avenue, to join a “People and Places” workshop. Each participant will create a one-of-a-kind, handmade talking doll to keep. Registration is required, as space is limited to 25. To sign up, call (760) 435-5600 or come to a Reference Desk.

Rizzhel graduated with an MFA in Studio Arts from SDSU in 2012, and works autobiographically to explore personal, community and global transformation, as well as communication, identity, memory and human relationships. Through sharing her stories, she encourages viewers to recall their memories, experiences and reflections. Rizzhel has combined images with sculpture, installation and digital media to make playful pieces that often require the viewer to engage physically with the work.

These events are part of a series, “Cross-Cultural Journeys, Travesías Transculturales,” made possible by a grant from California Humanities, a nonprofit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, with support from the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library.  Visit www.oceansidepubliclibrary.org for more Library events information.
