San Marcos Company Recognized for their Role in Thailand Cave Rescue

By Lucy Wheeler

San Marcos CA— Mr. Sergio Gamberini, President of Ocean Reef Inc. located in San Marcos, CA. and the Ocean Reef Group located near Genoa, Italy, was recently awarded the Proclamation of Recognition by the San Marcos City Council.

Mr. Gamberini addressed the council and attendees, giving a brief history of Ocean Reef, which opened in San Diego in 1992.  It has been a wholesale provider of diving equipment in San Marcos for the past 25 years. The company recently received global recognition for their successful participation in the rescue of the twelve young ‘Wild Boar Soccer Team’ players trapped in the Tham Luang Cave in Thailand last July.

The full-faced scuba diving masks, which are designed and manufactured in sizes for different all age divers, has the advantage of obtaining oxygen for  breathing naturally rather than the mouth inserted equipment which requires  learning to breathe through the mouth rather than the nose.  Not all the young soccer players knew how to swim and it was this difference in equipment which enabled their successful evacuation from the flooded cave.

This heartwarming contribution of Ocean Reef Inc. gained the respect and admiration of our local San Marcos City leaders as well as the global attention it earned.
