Heavy Smoke Thwarts Good Samaritan’s Efforts to Extinguish Fire in Neighbors Garage

Oceanside CA— On Sunday, November 11, 2018, just after 12:35pm., the Oceanside Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 3900 block of Magnolia Rd., in northeast Oceanside. The first unit on the scene reported heavy smoke coming from the garage of the single story, single family residence.

The heavy smoke thwarted an attempt to put out the fire by a neighbor who lives across the street. “My neighbor came knocking on my door and said there was smoke coming from her car parked in her garage,” explained Belinda Allison. “She was afraid that the car was going to start a fire in the garage.” Ms. Allison said she went to wake up her husband, Jeff, and told him what was happening across the street. “He grabbed some tools and a fire extinguisher and he went in. He tried to get the hood of the car open. He was able to pop the hood but he couldn’t find the secondary latch. By that time there was a lot of smoke and he was afraid the whole garage was going to go up in flames. We just told him to come out of the garage and then we watched it get bigger and waited for the fire department.”

The fire department made quick work of extinguishing the fire, salvaging contents while containing the damage to the garage area.

There were no injuries reported and no damage estimate was given.
