Junior League of San Diego Announces “90 Continuous Hours of Service” to Celebrate Monumental Anniversary

Organization members vow to volunteer for an entire weekend to kick off 90th anniversary, Feb. 8-11

San Diego CA—The Junior League of San Diego (JLSD) commemorates its 90th anniversary with “90 Continuous Hours of Service”—a nonstop, weekend-long event which brings active and sustaining League members together to give back to various community partners. The JLSD joined the Association of Junior Leagues of America—now the Association of Junior Leagues International—in 1929 becoming the fifth League in the state of California.

The inaugural event begins on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 a.m. and culminates on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 12 a.m. JLSD teams up with San Diego County community partners that align with the organization’s mission to improve the health, education and welfare of women. Volunteer activities planned include serving meals at Father Joe’s Villages and Ronald McDonald House, packing food at the San Diego Food Bank, designing Valentine’s Day cards with St. Paul’s Villa residents, cleaning up parks with I Love A Clean San Diego and more. Members that sign up for overnight shifts will volunteer from home, working on projects such as packing lunch bags and sewing tote bags for rehab patients, to ensure all members stay safe.
“Each year, our members volunteer thousands of hours in our community, which serve as the cornerstone of our mission to improve our community through the effective action of trained volunteers,” said Joni Flaherty, president of Junior League of San Diego. “For our 90th Anniversary, we are celebrating what we’ve accomplished and looking forward to many more hours of serving our community.”
For 90 years, the Junior League of San Diego has had a lasting and positive impact on the community of San Diego. The organization’s advocacy efforts have successfully improved the well-being of women, children and families in San Diego County. JLSD has founded several remarkable programs including the Polinsky CenterVoices for Children and LEAD San Diego. Its nearly 1,200 members have dedicated tens of thousands of volunteer hours each year and been pillars of strength and charity in their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods and broader communities.
