San Diego County CA—The 29th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day, celebrated throughout the San Diego region, will fall on Thursday, May 16. The regional Bike to Work Day has been hosted by SANDAG for more than 20 years.
In its 29th year in San Diego, Bike to Work Day has steadily grown from a few thousand riders in its early years to a SANDAG record high of 10,950 pit stop visits across 100 locations around the county in 2018.
In celebration of National Bike Month in May, thousands of commuters choose to GO by BIKE on Bike to Work Day every year. With more than 1,570 miles of bikeways, the San Diego region is one of the best places in the country for people to commute on two wheels.
SANDAG encourages riders to register for Bike to Work Day and to vote on the official 2019 Bike to Work Day t-shirt. Participants can vote for their favorite final design on the iCommute Facebook page now through Friday, March 15.
Registration for Bike to Work Day 2019 is now open, and those who register early will be entered to win a $500 bike shop gift certificate.
For the first time, participants will be asked to present their registration confirmation barcode to be scanned at a pit stop for a free t-shirt in an effort to better track participation and t-shirt distribution.
Registered riders will be greeted at 100 pit stops set up countywide to pick up a free Bike to Work Day t-shirt, grab refreshments and snacks, and get encouragement from pit stop volunteers.
To register, visit the SANDAG iCommute website.
Pit stops are crucial to the success of the event. Organizations interested in supporting Bike to Work Day can apply online to host a pit stop now through March 22.
