Harrah’s Resort Southern California to Celebrate Earth Day throughout April

Funner CA— Harrah’s Resort Southern California, 777 Rincon Way, in Funner, CA 92082, has been a “green hotel” since 2003 and created a sustainability program called CodeGreen to offer tangible solutions to the environmental problems our planet faces today. The resort’s sustainability efforts stretch from renewable energy sources to recycling, community outreach, and even a program for employees that extends off property and into homes.

In celebration of Earth Day this year, Harrah’s Resort Southern California will be offering a special cocktail – the Monarch Margarita – throughout the month of April, in which a portion of the proceeds will benefit the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife. On April 20, the resort will be hosting an earth friendly matching game, dubbed “Funner Flutter,” where winners will receive up to $1,500 in free play and one lucky winner will be chosen at 11pm, receiving $20,000 in cash! It’s true Harrah’s Resort SoCal likes to have fun, but exceeding on-property goals that minimize Funner’s environmental footprint and impact on beautiful Southern California is just as much a priority.

The first Southern California casino to go solar, Harrah’s Resort SoCal has the largest solar field of any other casino in the region and in the Caesars Entertainment empire, with 4,056 solar panels on 5.5 acres, designed to produce 2 gigawatt hours per year. Harrah’s uses solar energy to heat its large pool and guest room showers, and has saved roughly $300K per year in energy costs. This year, the resort began outsourcing all laundry to save water and energy on property, with a projected 20 million gallons of water that will be saved by the end of 2019. The resort helps guests live greener by accommodating those who drive electric vehicles with a designated “green lot” that features charging stations.

Harrah’s Resort SoCal also works with Clean the World to recycle and donate toiletries to impoverished families in the Philippines, and has donated over 7,769 bars of soap since 2016. The resort also has a “tidy” program in Housekeeping for partial service in all standard rooms with no sheets changed unless requested. In addition, smaller but still very impactful efforts include installing rooms with low-flow shower heads and smart thermostats; serving vegetables from onsite gardens; sorting garbage for recyclables; and using LED light bulbs.

So far in 2019, Harrah’s Resort SoCal’s CodeGreen efforts have resulted in:

  • Solar energy generated (kWh): 107,147
  • Trees planted: 423
  • Burning coal: 85 tons
  • Water gallons saved: 2.3 million
  • Water decreased usage: 6%
  • Recycle materials diverted: 1.3 million pounds
  • Recycle annual increase: 28%
  • KWH saved: 6,323,508
  • Lighting dollars saved with retrofit light bulbs: $1 million
  • Lighting bulbs switched: 95%
