Carlsbad CA— On Tuesday, April 23rd, the Carlsbad Republican Women welcome Craig Missakian as key note speaker. Missakian is a well-known trial lawyer and former state and federal prosecutor. He has earned national and international attention for prosecutions that included terrorism and environmental crimes, software piracy, organized crime, and public corruption. At the luncheon, Missakian will present, “The Prosecution of Chi Mak: Taking Down a Chinese Spy who Stole Valuable U.S. Secrets.”
In 2007, Missakian co-tried the case of Chi Mak, a Chinese national who controlled a spy ring targeting some of the U.S. Navy’s most closely guarded technologies. Commentator Lou Dobbs described it as the most significant espionage prosecution in a generation and Washington Times writer Bill Gertz featured the case in his book “Enemies.” Attorney General Michael Mukasey subsequently awarded Missakian and the other team members the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service, one of the U.S. Department of Justice’s highest honors, for their work on this case.
Missakian also served as Deputy Chief Counsel on the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on Benghazi and its investigation into the 2012 terrorist attack that killed four Americans. He drafted the well-received Additional Views of Representatives Jim Jordan and Mike Pompeo that laid out their conclusions about the investigation. This document was quoted extensively in the press after its release.
Missakian graduated Phi Beta Kappa from USC with a degree in political science and received his J.D. from Georgetown Law School.
