Volunteers of America Southwest Celebrates 123 Years of Service

San Diego County CA— Volunteers of America Southwest (VOASW), a nonprofit, faith-based organization with a mission to change the lives of vulnerable individuals by providing services and tools to improve their quality of life, is celebrating 123 years of service during the month of April.

Each year, Volunteers of America Southwest serves more than 8,000 individuals, children, and families in the areas of education, behavioral health, and housing. Its programs offer assistance in San Diego County, Imperial County and Southern California’s Inland Empire. It helps homeless veterans with disabilities achieve self-reliance, help men and women to return to their families clean and sober, care for elders and those struggling with mental health challenges, and support the futures of our community’s children through education and overall family well-being.

As the organization moves forward, it has many important opportunities. Its’ schools are expanding use of technology in the classroom to facilitate better learning opportunities for students and greater access and involvement for parents. This is especially crucial for low-income families. Its’ new Resource & Recovery Center is still expanding services offered to include more group-centered and family-centered approach to the later stages of addiction recovery and community re-entry. Volunteers of America Southwest is also upgrading its Hawley Veterans Services Center to help facilitate veteran transition back to normal life.

Gerald McFadden, President & CEO of Volunteers of America Southwest, stated, “I am often asked, ‘why does our organization exist?’ My reply without hesitation is that we exist so those who are emotionally broken and without hope will know Volunteers of America will always have the light on for them. Whether struggling with an addiction disorder, a homeless veteran with mental health challenges, a child with unique educational needs, we want to be there to help them on their journey to a more vibrant life.”

Supporters have helped to co-create thousands of life-changing success stories. Volunteers of America Southwest encourages you to unite in its’ effort. As little as $35 can feed a senior for a week. A donation of $100 can fund a month of case management services for three seniors.  $250 can pay a month of rent for a senior. Please visit www.voadonate.org and help the organization transform lives from vulnerable to vibrant.

Volunteers of America is one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive human service organizations, touching the lives of almost two million people each year in hundreds of communities across the nation. Volunteers of America is a national nonprofit, faith-based religious service organization founded in 1896 as a church by social reformers, Ballington and Maud Booth.
