Alcohol Possible Factor in Crash that Took the Life of San Marcos Woman in Carlsbad

Carlsbad CA— Late this afternoon, September 15, 2019, just before 6:00pm, Officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to the intersection of Aviara Parkway and Cobblestone Road regarding a report of a vehicle that had collided with a street light pole.

Upon arrival, Officers found a 2002 Honda Civic crashed into the pole with extensive damage. The passenger in the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene and the driver was transported by the Fire Department to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger pronounced deceased was identified as a 41-year-old female from San Marcos. The driver transported for his injuries, was identified as a 37-year-old male from San Marcos.

Alcohol intoxication is believed to be a factor into the cause of the collision and the investigation by the Traffic Division is underway.

Northbound Aviara Parkway at Mariposa Road will be closed for the next few hours while the investigation takes place.
