Oceanside CA— On Saturday, January 25, 2019 at 7:23pm, Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista fire units were dispatched to a fire at the Lil’ Jackson Senior Community located 3512 Lake Blvd in southeast Oceanside.
The first arriving engine company (Oceanside Engine 214) arrived four minutes after dispatch and encountered audible fire alarms and the sprinkler system had been activated. Upon investigation it was determined that a cooking fire in one of the second-floor units triggered the sprinkler system and was able to extinguish the fire without spreading beyond the kitchen of the affected unit. However, there was running water on the floor in several adjacent units on the second-floor and water dripping down from the ceiling on the units below.
Fire Crews quickly shut down the sprinkler to prevent further water damage and laid tarps and covers on the first-floor units to protect the property of the residents. Firefighters were also actively pushing the water out the doors with squeegees.
Red Cross was called to help assist finding shelter for 8-10 residents who were displaced by the fire and water damage. The building was left with the manager and she was coordinating the arrival of Red Cross and a restoration company.
One resident was evaluated by paramedics on scene but did not require transport to the hospital. No firefighters or residents were injured.
