TrueCare™ provides free guidance to the public to explore healthcare insurance options and help them stay insured during this time
San Marcos CA— With unemployment at about 9% in California, many people are left without healthcare insurance care right now. An estimated 100,000 people remain uninsured in San Diego County, even though they are eligible for financial help through Covered California or Medi-Cal (low or no-cost coverage).
Health Insurance Open Enrollment is the time period each year when people are allowed to start, stop or change their health insurance plan. This year’s Covered CA open enrollment runs through January 31st, 2021, but applications must be submitted by Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in order for coverage to begin January 1, 2021.
TrueCare™, a nonprofit health care provider for the underserved in North San Diego and South Riverside Counties, is providing free health insurance enrollment assistance to the public to explore healthcare insurance options and assist in filling out the application to ensure patients stay covered during this time, regardless of being a patient or not.
“Providing access to affordable health care coverage is more important than ever during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis,” says Michelle Gonzalez, president and CEO of TrueCare™. “We believe that healthcare is a right that everyone deserves. We want to make sure people understand that health insurance options are available, regardless of income and employment status.”
Gonzalez emphasizes, “It is very important to enroll now in order to be covered in January and through 2021. Otherwise, they will have to wait until November 2021 to apply for insurance; however Medi-Cal recipients can enroll anytime throughout the year, but eligibility must be determined. To avoid lack of coverage, this is the time to enroll.”
In order to help bring the cost of coverage within reach, the state of California will continue to provide more financial help to eligible consumers in 2021 through a subsidy program. Overall, the financial help from the federal government, the state, or both, helps the average person save about 80 percent off the cost of their monthly premium.
One application to Covered California will determine a person’s eligibility for a health insurance subsidy or Medi-Cal, which is a free or low-cost health coverage plan.
“Our greatest concern is that many are putting off medical care right now due to job loss, reduced hours and income changes,” adds Gonzalez. “We are here to assure all patients are welcomed at TrueCare and everyone receives quality healthcare no matter what.”
