La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Offers Premium Streaming Virtual Concert ‘The Music of Wonder and Awe’

Premieres February 19th, Available until March 6th

La Jolla CA— With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting everyday life, the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus has once again re-imagined our 2020-2021 season. As we adapt to these unprecedented circumstances, we’ll continue to serve our communities as best we can. In order to ensure the safety of our community and ourselves, we’ve made some important modifications to our programming that will allow us to continue to share the joy of live performance with you, virtually.

Our 2020-2021 season—STAY HOME WITH US— will combine some of our favorite things: lively conversation, fascinating ideas and extraordinary music. In this six-part monthly series, we’ll prepare a lively menu of musical encounters featuring interviews, solo performances and selected pre-recorded works from the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus archives. Join us from your living room, or maybe from the kitchen as you prepare a meal and enjoy a glass of wine or listen as you walk on the beach or on the trails. We will meet you where you are with our signature mixture of adventurous and classic music-making along with warm conversations. We will be airing selected archived LJS&C performances, preceded by a series of newly produced and recorded pre-concert lectures, interviews, and readings, hosted and curated by Steven Schick, Music Director. We are calling these “LJS&C: Stay Home with Us.”

On February 19, 2021, LJS&C will release a program entitled “Music of Wonder and Awe”. Reaching out from the unknown, how do we find spaces of elation? Hosted by LJS&C Chorus Director, Ruben Valenzuela, we’ll feature an archived performance of Francis Poulenc’s stellar setting of the Gloria, interspersed with interviews by soloist Susan Narucki and a solo performance.

As we eagerly anticipate our return to the concert stage when it is safe to do so, we are excited to be in production of this bold new monthly digital program, featuring Steven Schick, LJS&C Music Director, Ruben Valenzuela, LJS&C Chorus Director and musicians from both ensembles. All of these programs will feature solos and small ensembles performed by musicians from the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus and gives us the perfect opportunity to introduce you to our LJS&C family on a more intimate basis.

Productions will be aired on January 15, February 19, March 19, April 16, May14 and June 18.
