San Diego CA— Kathleen Scoggin, an artist and resident of Oceanside, California, won the first-place award in the extraordinarily competitive March 2021 Member’s exhibition “My Life, My Story” held virtually in March 2021, on The San Diego Watercolor Society website, www.sdws.org. Scoggin’s painting titled “River Rhythm” was selected by prominent Australian artist and juror Graeme Stevenson for this honor, out of more than 270 entries. Stevenson said of the painting, “This picture really grabbed my attention straight away. It had great composition and form, and the juxtaposition of colours made each section of the piece stand out in its own story and area. I can see this style and artist in a good San Diego gallery.”
Fortunately, Kathleen’s art has been exhibited in many galleries in southern California and around the country. She is a contemporary abstract artist working in watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. She earned degrees in Basic Design and Fine Arts Coursework and Art History from Oregon State University, Portland State University, and Chemeketa Community College. Kathleen’s work is inspired by nature and expresses organic subjects inviting the viewer to see and be aware of the beauty around them. The work is based on unique texture techniques to describe the varied earth forms that are all around us. Her art is created to help the viewer see and be aware of the electrifying beauty of nature but also to instill mystery. In addition, Kathleen paints commissioned portraits of dogs and cats of all breeds. More of her work can be found at https://kathleenscoggin.com
The Virtual Exhibit will run through Saturday March 27, 2021 on The San Diego Watercolor Society’s website at https://www.sdws.org/galleryart.php?cat=6964 where the paintings can be both viewed and purchased from the Online Store.
