Celebrate Mom All Month Long at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station This Month

San Diego CA— Mother’s Day is less than one week away! For everything our super moms do, they deserve more than just one day of celebrating. From unique and one-of-a-kind gifts to memorable experiences, businesses at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station are here to help you shower Mom with love all month long.

Get Crafty

Get crafty with a curated collection of yarn and supplies for crocheting, weaving and spinning at Apricot Yarn & Supply. Give Mom a reason to smile every morning by creating a personalized coffee mug or custom candle from Hot Spot Pottery. Pick up an archival matted photograph from MK Envision Galleries or stop by Anne Gaffey Art for a collection of brightly colored paintings, wine tumblers and socks. To help elevate her everyday, pick up hand painted fine art, home goods or personalized jewelry from The Art of MVP.

Styled Accessories

Is your Mom a style icon? Help the ultimate fashionista in your life accessorize with a variety of wearable art including jewelry, pins and scarves from Visions Art Museum. Make an impact with some one-of-a-kind pieces and wardrobe staples from Imperfects, all made in the USA from sustainable globally sourced fabrics that help reduce waste and lower your carbon footprint.

Dinner and a Stroll

Make it a date night with Mom! Begin with a taste of Italy no passport required at Solare Ristorante where you can wine and dine Mom with some authentic Italian cuisine followed by some artisan truffles and gourmet chocolates from Chi Chocolat & Banyan Kitchen. Afterwards, enjoy springtime in San Diego with a stroll through the many public art installations. There are currently 13 art installations on display, many of which were made possible through NTC Foundation’s Installations at the Station program which helps transform the 100-acre former Naval Training Center site into a thriving arts and cultural destination. The most recent installation is titled Transcending Perception and was created in collaboration with five artists. Located next to The LOT, this installation is a series of five doors each by an artist from San Diego, the East Coast, Tijuana, and Kenya with one side of the door representing how each artist views themselves and the other side showing how society views them.

Virtual Reality at Wonderspace

For something a little more immersive, check out Wonderspace’s latest film Battlescar. This virtual reality film is set in the late ’70s and follows a year in the life of Lupe, a runaway who explores the underground Punk scene of New York City’s Lower East Side. Starring Rosario Dawson, this film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. This film is rated R, and a Parent or Guardian must accompany visitors under 17.

San Diego Watercolor Society

ARTS DISTRICT is home to a wide variety of museums, galleries and artist studios. One of the longest running galleries, San Diego Watercolor Society, reopens its doors on May 7. The San Diego Watercolor Society Gallery is a showcase for the tremendous variety of watermedia as created by SDWS members

After being closed for over year, since March 2020, they are welcoming back San Diego just in time for Mother’s Day and with a brand-new exhibit titled Shape Zone available exclusively for their members. Their online store is also available to purchase paintings and other items you can send directly to Mom.

Dedicate a Rosebush to Mom

Give Mom a gift as unique and special as she is by dedicating a rosebush in her honor at the Sybil Stockdale Rose Garden. For a $500 donation, this tribute will have your custom message on a commemorative plaque implanted in the garden for decades to come, adjacent to your designated rosebush. Proceeds from the plaques go directly towards the NTC Foundation and sponsors community programs at Liberty Station, making it truly the gift that keeps on giving. Each donor receives a special certificate noting the location of the rosebush and the plaque inscription. To dedicate a rosebush, click here.
