Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month with Two Virtual Film Premieres by San Diego Filipino Cinema

San Diego CA— May is Asian-American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and the San Diego Filipino Cinema (SDFC) is celebrating with a special virtual Perspective Film Series: New Americans POV on May 29 at 5 p.m. New Americans POV will highlight two documentary short films made by BIPOC filmmakers Peter Okojie (Breaking Forth) and Drama Del Rosario (In This Family).

The screening will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a Q&A session at 6 p.m. to talk about the filmmakers’ personal process in creating the films and the challenges they face as new Americans. The Q&A session will be moderated by New Americans Museum’s Executive Director Linda Caballero Sotelo and SDFC Executive Director Benito Bautista with an introduction and facilitation by filmmaker and dance artist, Trixi Agiao.

To ensure no one is turned away, screenings of both films along with the Q&A are free to everyone, with a suggested $10 donation to help support the San Diego Filipino Cinema continue to bring events like this to the community along with film educational programs, such as film workshops, filmmaker mentorship, film talks and more. This special film event is presented by San Diego Filipino Cinema in partnership with New Americans Museum and was made possible with the support of the NTC Foundation with generous support from the Bank of Southern California and Liberty Station retail partner, The Seligman Group and the Seligman Family Foundation, and a sponsorship by Homelight.
